biography
Joe Palmer (Owner/Performing Arts Director) has been competing and teaching ballroom, Latin and swing for over 14 years. He majored in dance education at New York University and has taught for schools such as NYU, Pratt University, Brooklyn’s St. Francis de Sales School for the Deaf, Columbia University and is a regular teacher at Lincoln Center’s yearly summer festival, Midsummer Night Swing. In addition to his numerous competitive titles, including American Lindy Hop Champion, Joe has been a featured dancer and choreographer on stage, television and in film. He has created, produced and directed many original shows including “Measurements; The Makings of a New Musical” and most recently an all jazz version of Lewis Carroll's “Alice In Wonderland”.
Joe started performing around the age of 8 when he and some classmates wrote, directed, and performed in a short film about Haley's comet. That hooked him. He has become an accomplished dancer in many different styles including swing, Latin, ballroom, ballet, jazz, tap, modern and theater dance and has been on the stage in some form or another ever since. By combining these styles he has become known as a smooth, clean and dynamic dancer who is always a crowd favorite when he performs.
Some of his favorite starring roles were in "Little Shop of Horrors", "West Side Story" and "Dark of the Moon". Joe made his New York stage debut, in modern dance, with Sara Pearson & Patrick Widrig and Company at the Joyce Theater. Then he moved on to a dance company called "SwingDance America", which allowed him to perform his own choreographic work as well as the work of many top-ranked professional American swing dancers. He could also be seen in the American and Canadian National Tour of Dean Reagan's "Forever Swing".
